Topics of research that interest Prof. Bakopoulos relate to all aspects of aquatic animaldiseases prevention including: isolation and description of pathogens, study of their biochemistry andsensitivity/resistance to chemotherapeutants, phenotypic and antigenic characterization of pathogens,production and characterization of immune sera, monoclonal antibody technology, development ofimmunological techniques for diagnosis, identification and analysis of antigens and immuneresponses, development of culture media that promote synthesis of natural antigens, development ofvaccine mixtures and study of their efficacy and immune stimulation, mechanisms ofimmunopathology of viral, bacterial and parasitic pathogens, study of parasites and geneticimprovement of production fish, use of bioactive substances in fish nutrition and analysis of theiraction at the level of innate immunity and development.
